in 1990, Cecelia Tessieri, the first female Master Chocolatier, founded Amedei along with her brother, Alessio. Their initial focus was on the creation of bonbons using couverture until a trip to France changed their direction. When Valrhona declined to sell to the Italians fearing the national palate wasn’t sufficiently sophisticated, the Tessieris vowed to learn to source and produce their own chocolate. By 1997 they were ready to give the French a run for their money.
