More than 70% of the world’s chocolate comes from Africa, but most of it is exported and finished elsewhere, leaving little profit for the growers and their communities. Founded by Peace Corps volunteers, Madecasse ensures these farmer-owned and shade-grown beans from Madagascar are roasted and finished in country. Plantations dating back to the French Colonial era are home to some of the last genetically pure Criollo in the world. Madecasse uses these heirloom beans for all their bars.
